Come On Feel The Burn
Remember that Lemonheads strip I promised forever ago? Well here it is!
Evan Dando is actually a really great musician with some super ideas, but I've always had a weakness for representing, respected members of a community, as dunces in my attempts at humor.
Hell it works for Kate Beaton: http://www.harkavagrant.com/index.php

RIP LP
Seeing as Les Paul was from Waukesha WI, I couldn't let his passing go unnoted. He was a great musician with a phenomenally innovative mind (invested the eclectic guitar for god sakes). He had a pretty good run at this whole life business, and he accomplished a hellova lot in the time he spent down here with us mortals. Thanks for everything man, you will be missed. RIP LP

Delayed Reaction
I might have something about the Lemonheads ready come Monday though. So if you like them, ya know... stay tuned and stuff...
Saw The Roman Line on Thursday. They were pretty tight. I got a copy of their album sampler and their up coming release is defiantly going to be something to look forward to come fall. If you like D4 I'd recommend you check them out - http://www.myspace.com/theromanline

Lessons in Sticken It To The Man
I'm not a big time advocate for the violation of copy right laws, but I do admit to taking every opportunity to stick it to Billy Corgan. Seriously, the guy sucks.
Last week was probably the best week for punk rock Green Bay (my home town encase you didn't already know) has seen since the 80's. Beginning with Sun July 26th and ending Aug 2nd I had the opportunity to see:
-Sloppy Seconds- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rf96br9LSWU
-Destroy Everything- http://www.myspace.com/destroyeverything
-Jetty Boys- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vz8HuFP6Pmk
-The Manix- http://www.myspace.com/themanixmn
-Liarbirds- http://www.myspace.com/liarbirdspace
-Final Summation- http://www.myspace.com/finalsummation
-Social Distortion- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pf_R4_yvQOQ
-The Strangers- http://www.myspace.com/strangersstrangers
-Civet- http://www.myspace.com/civet
-Truth Dealer- http://www.myspace.com/truthdealer
-X27- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCIPSzL3r30
-The Re-volts- http://www.myspace.com/sfrevolts
and last but not least
-The Phenomenauts- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8houK22fQ0Y
Now Green Bay is a town where you get one or two good shows a month. Having any of these bands play in a week would have been exciting, but to have them all play in the same week? I very nearly went broke/insane trying to see them. Luckily I succeeded in doing so while only sustaining minor damage to my finances and/or mental health. I'm still super buzzed from all the excitement. It was a good week. =)

The Truth About TSOL
TSOL was one of the late greats of the 80's Hardcore scene. They still, to this day, hold a special place in my heart... even though I was, like 5 when Dance With Me and I only picked up the album about a year ago, and had only heard of them like a 2 years before that... *cough cough* POSER! *cough*
Who said that!

All Night Bummer
Well I went to Dennys for the first time, in like, four years and found this in their menu:
http://www.dennysallnighter.com/index.php/site/rockstarmenu-current/
Honestly, I'm a little ashamed to be the target audience for this soul-numming promotion and corporate pandering.
Apparently you can also RSVP at Denny's across the country for Warped Tour afterparties at select locations... so ya know, be sure to get on that bandwagon... yeah. =P
Alright so enough sarcasm and ranting for one day, now I'd like to talk about something I actually enjoy. It's a webcomic called Savage Chickens. It's funny. You should read it. Think Toothpaste for Dinner, but with chickens... and slightly better art. http://www.savagechickens.com/ =D

Screw The Tour
(Click Image to View in Full)
For a tour that used to be considered a traveling punk rock carnival, the now corporate pony ride, sponsor whore, Van’s Warped Tour has seen better days. Bellow is my full review of the coming festivities:
3oh3 (Emo Rap? Eh…), 40 Sons And Daughters(sucks), A CURSIVE MEMORY (sucks), A Day To Remember (sucks…BIG TIME), A Love Like Pi' (thinks they’re Kenya West, weird… also it sucks), A Rocket To The Moon (sucks), A Skylite Dive (too horrible to describe), Adolescents (awesome, but not playing Wisconsin date. Boo!), After Midnight Project (sucks), Aiden (sucks), Alamance, (sucks), Alexisonfire, (sucks), All Time Low (seen them already, really sucked), And I've Landed (eh), Another Option (sucks), Anti-Flag (sellouts, also they’ve sucked since their third album), Attack Attack (emos posing as punks, blah!), Authority Zero (pretty good), Bad religion (FUCK YEAH, but if you think I’m going to fight through a few thousand emos in the blazing sun in some god forsaken parking lot in Milwaukee to see them you’re dead wrong), Banderas (pretty good), Bayside (not bad, new stuff’s pretty good), Big D And The Kids Table (HELLS YEAH!), Black Box (good), Black Saints Cartel (good), Born to Lose (good), Bouncing Souls (awesome , not playing WI though), Breathe Electric (eh), Broadway Calls (alright), brokeNCYDE (sucks), Buckeye (sucks), blah blah blah, DOA (not playing Wisconsin), FEAR (skipping WI), Fake Problems (only playing Ohio), Hits the Lights (sucks), Meg and Dia (wait for it… SUCKS!), Senses Fail (sucks), Scary Kids Scaring Kids (sucks), Silverstien (sucks), The Ataris (sucks), The Devil Wears Prada (sucks), The White Tie Affair (seen ‘um, suck ass), Thrice (sucks), Underoath (sucks), blah blah blah, you get the idea, don’t go you’ll probably regret it.

Desolation Show
So My Chemical Romance did a cover recently of Bob Dylan's classic "Desolation Row" for the Watchmen movie. Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9VaVukLtfg
It combines two of my favorite things, Watchmen and Bob Dylan covers, with two of my least favorite things, bad Bob Dylan covers and emo's pretending to be punk. You can guess how I feel about the the band as a whole.
In other news, I hear Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies ( http://www.amazon.com/Pride-Prejudice-Zombies-Classic-Ultraviolent/dp/1594743347 ) is supposed to be pretty good. I'd like to read the original before I jump into this parody though. Any Jane Austin fans out there? Is this advisable, or should I just jump right into the parody and satisfy my lust for acts of atrocious gore committed by the undead? Feed back, please!

Now granted, Dream Police isn't bubble gum pop, but Cheap Trick, in general, even if most of Cheap Trick's songs are. On that premise, you could make the generalization that ALL of Cheap Trick's songs are bubble gum pop. That of course would be pretty arbitrary, but Nic does it anyway, and I feel like it works.

I was surfin' the web a little while uploading this strip, and since I like to post videos with my comics I thought I'd share it with all y'all. It's Canadian news segment circa 1977 about the then emerging punk scene. Check it out, it's pretty weird/ funny:

Damaged
Damaged is MY favorite Black Flag album. What's yours? (If you don't have one, feel free to second my selection as the best... cause you know I'm always write about these things... in my sick and fevered mind!)
It occurred to me recently that I really don't do enough plugging of other people's comics. This made me feel like a bit of jerk when it occurred to me 'cause other people plug mine all the time. Watch what I do about it now...
First I'd like to say READ UNICELLULAR! (http://unicellular.smackjeeves.com/comics/) It's pretty much just a good time all round. Corny and strangely informative, it's a classic style web-comic except all the characters are microscopic organisms instead of 20 something wastiods like Questionable Content or my own dubious offerings. Plus, Tom is a really righteous dude, and has a thing for bad puns which I TOTALLY appreciate.
The next is The Hub (http://www.drunkduck.com/The_Hub/?p=535403). I can honest say I've never seen anything quite like it before. The art is just grand and boast an insane amount of detail. Also, despite its surreal setting, it's seriously relateable. Some of the conversations Hyena writes for her characters remind me of many a conversion I've had in real life. Tone is spot on for that type of thing. Also the author has a similar affection for punk rock as myself, which is a-ok in my book. =D
That's it for the plugs at the moment, I'll have more come Friday. See you then!

NoFunny
Sorry about the lack of Friday updates as well. I was feeling a little unmotivated Thursday night and then a friend informed me of the Blueheels (http://www.myspace.com/blueheelsrocknroll) show that night, and well... that was the end of that. Give the Blueheels a listen and see if you can blame me for going.
Today's comic features one of the many rising stars of the underground garage/punk scene. NoBunny! NoBunny is a thing of legend. You'll hear whispers about him in the corners of trendy coffee shops and the back halls of tattoo parlors, but he's one of those acts you probably wont have the chance to see unless you have a bloodhound trained to sniff out house shows. He seems to only play venues located in someone's basement, so if you want to catch him, you'll to keep you're ear to the floor. According to eye witnesses, it's a pretty intense set to say the least. And seeing as I'm not about to call said eye witnesses liars, I'm generally inclined to believe them.
Check out NoBunny here: http://www.myspace.com/nobunnylovesyou

As far as musical obsessions go. Fucked Up (http://www.myspace.com/epicsinminutes) is defiantly me newest. They're essentially everything great about 80's hardcore with out the Black Flag aftertaste.
Also I have a guest strip up at Unicellular by Tom Helmuth. It's a strip about unicellular organisms who have corny conversations and tell a lot of nerdy jokes. It's pretty much a good time all round. Check it out: http://unicellular.smackjeeves.com/comics/580034/133-mr-mrsa/

Spirit of the Radio... Broadcasting Television
TV on The Radio is sorta my thing right now as far a music obsessions go. That being said, I think this strip might exhaust all the material I have pertaining to them right now. It's sorta sad considering how much I actually listen to them.
My favorite performance of theirs so far is the one they did for Colbert about a month ago:
http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/218126/february-09-2009/tv-on-the-radio---dancing-choose
(If you want to watch the video you'll have to sit through a freakin' commercial first, just a head up =P)
To be perfectly honest, I'm sorta surprised at how big they're getting. It seems like every other time I turn on the Tv they're doing a guest spot or interview for someone. Not that I'm complaining though. I'm always happy see Indie bands get the recognition they deserve. Recognition that eludes far to many all to often. I just hope they don't get sassy and start talking like they're bigger then Jesus... Because from what I understand this Jesus fellow is pretty popular, and that kind of talk might be a little presumptuous at this point.

This was a very big deal in the Indie scene when it happened. I honestly couldn't care less, but a lot of people apparently broke into spasm of joy when the engagement was announced in everyone's favorite tabloid news source, Rolling Stone. When I looked it up on Rolling Stone's website the first comment immediately following the article was "When I heard this I jerked off". It was at that very moment I decided to do a comic. Enjoy!

Regrettable Covers
About a month ago the band Onslaught Dynamo asked to be in a strip, and I finally got around to obliging them at about 3am this mourning.
If you like Pop-punk you can check them out here-
http://www.myspace.com/onslaughtdynamo
They're pretty damned good, even if I have to say so myself.
The concert Sam mentions in the strip is this one- http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p258/sweetsuperior/HOH.jpg
It's a massive charity event going down in Florida next month, ft such big names as Against Me!, The National, Propgahndi, Bad Brains, Smoke or Fire, Bomb the Music Industry, and a million other great bands. Makes me very jealous of all the Floridians who have the opportunity to attend while I freeze my nips off up in the mid-west.

Punk Songs You Should Know IV
Punk Rock Girls- The Queers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEO9rikCRbo
The Queers are probably one of my all time favorite 80s/90s pop punk bands. Amazingly their still playing strong after all these years; and are very likely more popular NOW then at any other point in their career. It just goes to show; you play enough dive bars, and good things are bound to happen for you. ;) If you haven't seen them yet, let me take this opertunity to inform you of their fantastic live show. If you ever get the chance to drop in on one of their performances, take it! You won't be disappointed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6vE7FbkW0w
As of right now I'm planning a Year in Review '08/ Noise Pollution Awards strip for the Friday update, but depending on whether or not I get any drawing done this week, that may or may not happen. Keep your fingers crossed for me folks.

Of Heros and Zeros
In other news, I've recently discovered HULU (http://www.hulu.com/), and have already lost more of my life then I care to mention watching episodes the Office and Family Guy on it. How accessible it makes all my favorite shows is as addictive as it is detrimental to my sense of time management. It's existence has to be part of some vast media conspiracy to make us all fat, unproductive, and phenomenally entertained. Heaven forbid I ever actually get any real work done again.
Have a good weekend!
